This position works collaboratively with TRIUMF’s Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Scientific teams on the energy management program to improve the energy efficiency of facility operations and fulfill the strategic objectives outlined in the Energy Management Plan. This position is responsible for developing strategic energy management objectives and supporting TRIUMF’s management team in delivering energy management initiatives and projects. While most of the effort will focus on managing electricity efficiencies, the incumbent must be familiar with all forms of energy that impact TRIUMF.
The Industrial Energy Manager reports directly to the Group Leader of the Electrical Services and regularly interacts with site groups and management levels to develop and deliver on the assignments in cooperation with BC Hydro Power Smart Senior Key Account Management. On a day-to-day basis, shall interact with design and operational groups. Key external contacts are BC Hydro Power Smart Senior Key Account Manager and the Power Smart Industrial Energy Program team. These relationships are characterized by respect, professionalism, and competence.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creation of a strategic plan that draws on knowledge from all departments:
- an energy policy that integrates into existing policy structures
- strategic direction for multi-year periods
- with management to craft plans and gain approval.
- (informal) of an energy team:
- key individuals within other departments to support TRIUMF’s strategic energy management plan
- metrics and deliverables
- a reporting structure that includes the roles and responsibilities of team members.
- regular team meetings and creates processes to capture feedback.
- prioritize, and manage project opportunities for energy management.
- system audits to identify quick wins and optimization of existing systems.
- studies and activities to generate project opportunities.
- and tracks project opportunities.
- business cases for specific projects/budgets for 2024 and beyond.
- resources required to see projects to completion.
- and advises on project implementation across business groups.
- Become the contact point for contractors providing energy management or project support.
- Become a local source of technical and market intelligence:
- all areas of energy use, including electricity, diesel, natural gas, water, and renewable energy sources.
- potential opportunities through familiarization of efforts at other facilities and coordination with other energy management professionals.
- an inventory of potential areas of exploration for future opportunities.
- technologies related to energy efficiency, carbon reduction, electrification, and capacity management.
- Baseline monitoring, performance auditing, and reporting:
- a multi-year baseline of energy uses for TRIUMF.
- energy use year-over-year and reports on seasonal variations and annual trends.
- metrics for tracking progress against TRIUMF’s targets and goals.
- and maintains an energy model that tracks energy usage.
- holistic reporting encompassing policies, communication strategies, engagement plans, energy models, project lists, budgeting, and business insights, and how these integrate into YVR’s overall strategy.

- stakeholder engagement activities across the organization.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities associated with the position. However, the incumbent may supervise contractors and provide technical oversight for groups implementing the energy management strategies and plans. Also acts as the team lead within the project team, leads regular team meetings, and assigns/tracks project work.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Demonstrated strong people engagement skills

- Demonstrated experience and ability in writing detailed and effective reports

NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER:
The position requires the incumbent to be trained and designated as a TRIUMF NEW. Training will be provided by TRIUMF.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
- degree in engineering
- Registered Professional Engineer, or Registered Engineering Technologist, or Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
- 2nd year Energy Manager, Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation through the Association of Energy Engineers is a requirement
- of 5-7 years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years of work experience in industrial processes and in the operation, maintenance, and management of electrical and lighting systems and mechanical systems.
Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).

Salary Range:
$68,800.00 - $86,000.00
